Here is a video for a song I produced for The Wilson Family Forgery. This was a great project and the CD turned out really well. For those of you living in Hamilton there is lots of local references on this album.
On Saturday November 5th, 2011 we played a new song at The Art of Sound Festival at The Freeway in Hamilton. The song is called “Community VS Technology.” It was co-written by all 3 members of 2x the Mono and has been a work in progress over the last 5 months. We are looking forward to going into the studio in 2012 and getting this out as a single.
I love instruments. It is my weakness. Some guys collect comics or base ball cards. I collect stuff that makes sound.
In my collection of instruments I have a number of Casio Keyboards. I have always wanted to try circuit bending one of these little instruments but I know nothing about tools or electronics. I started watching how to circuit bend videos on YouTube, but I still knew I would need some help with the tools and electronics.
On Monday night a couple of my friends from The Commons took the plunge and started our first circut bending project. We took apart my Casio SK-10 and added a couple glitchy buttons and an out put jack to plug it into an amp. We were all very happy with the way it turned out and I think we will be doing more bending in the near future.
I have already recorded a noise experiment using nothing but my Bent Casio (and some reverb) to see what she can do. you can listen to the song here:
2x the Mono will be playing in the Art of Sound Festival at The Freeway Coffee House this Saturday November 5th, 2011. The show goes from 7pm – Midnight and we will be at at 9pm on the main floor stage. This is a big fundraiser for the coffee house so they can keep up all the great work with having music every Friday night there, this is a night for the bands and fans to give back to this cool space.
It is very exciting to be part of Art of Sound, and I’m very happy to see it continue. Art of Sound is my creation, and it was one of the events I started when I worked for The Freeway, and it is great to see it alive and kicking.
